Part of the First Oscar Trilogy (Being Bree 2010, Chalice 2011, and a photo series titled Chromis Viridis 2015- ), this work focuses on a short scene from the seminal 1976 film Network, starring Faye Dunaway (in her first Oscar winning performance) as Diana Christensen in which she seduces her male boss by various means: emasculating herself, hinting at the homosexuality of her ex-husband, and self deprecating her sexual prowess. By giving Diana my voice I subvert the layers of her personality and bring to the front issues of over-identification with this character. The filming and editing process of this piece, while lo-tech is equally layered, making it a stand-in for the characters involved in it.

A video re-enactment of the scenes in the 1970 film Klute, where Bree Daniels (Jane Fonda) discusses with her analyst (Vivian Nathan) her need to prostitute herself vis-à-vis her foundering art practice as a model and an actress. Questioning the relation between the nature of compulsion, control and creativity, in Being Bree I transcribe the scenes, originally improvised, and deliver them as if they were my own, becoming both analyst and analysand, merging male and female.
